Insider’s Guide to Oahu, Hawaii

Discover the Paradise of Oahu, Hawaii:

Hawaii has been on my long list of places to visit for quite some time. One of the things that excites me the most about my birthday is the opportunity to check off another travel destination. After much deliberation and planning, I resolved to celebrate my birthday in the tropical paradise of Oahu, Hawaii. This stunning island is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant culture. My first trip to Hawaii was back in 2015. I visited the island of Maui for five days in total tranquility. It was a magical experience, to say the least. What’s great about the Hawaiian islands is the uniqueness of each island. Each with its own flavor and pace. If you’re seeking an authentic Hawaiian feel with accessible walking, restaurants, and nightlife, Oahu is a great option. Planning a group trip can be challenging logistically, but Oahu has something for everyone to enjoy. I decided to lodge the group with Outrigger Hotels. The Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort is the epitome of Hawaiian hospitality. Nestled along the iconic Waikiki Beach, this luxurious resort blends modern comfort and traditional Hawaiian charm. There were no shortage of options to enjoy our stay. You can relax by the pool, pamper yourself at the spa, and savor delicious cuisine at the hotel's renowned restaurants. Having an array of dining options on the property and within walking distance was a huge plus for me. Convenient lodging and accessibility make it much easier to maximize your time when traveling. What I loved most about Oahu is the diversity of things to see and do. I wanted to create an experience that would be memorable, adventurous, and relaxing. Here are some of the places that we explored on our exciting trip to Hawaii:

Explore:

1. Diamond Head:

Our adventure began with a visit to the majestic Diamond Head, a volcanic crater that offers panoramic views of the island. If you’re looking to stay active on your trip and take in the sight of sweeping vistas of the sparkling Pacific Ocean and the lush greenery that surrounds you, this is the perfect hike. The hike may be challenging, and it’ll certainly get your heart rate up, but the breathtaking scenery makes it all worthwhile.

2. Lanikai Beach:

Much of Honolulu is equivalent to most big cities in the United States with noise, traffic, and bustling crowds. I wanted to spend time on the eastern side of the island where we could experience the beauty of one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Next, we headed to Lanikai Beach, a hidden gem known for its powdery white sand and turquoise waters. This secluded paradise is perfect for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, or simply being and taking in its pure beauty. I was worried that rain would ruin our designated beach day, but in true birthday fashion, the sun gave us just enough to relish in the sight of this unbelievable stretch of coastline and picturesque mountains. Our time visiting Lanikai Beach did not disappoint. In fact, it’s one beach that I’ve resolved to return to because it’s just that perfect.

3. Waikiki Beach:

No visit to Oahu is complete without a trip to the famous Waikiki Beach. Luckily for us, our lodging choice was a beachfront property in walking distance of the world-famous Waikiki Beach. This vibrant and bustling stretch of sand is a paradise for surfers, sun-seekers, and beach lovers. Take a surf lesson, soak up the sun, or simply stroll along the shoreline and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere. Waikiki Beach is one of the busiest beaches that I’ve encountered, but don’t be alarmed. The vibrant atmosphere is quite charming. We were able to kick back, and watch impressive surfers and beginners try their hands at riding waves while immersing ourselves in the highly social setting. Waikiki Beach is a fun time and a great place to meet new people in the most relaxing environment.

4. Moana Falls:

Our trip concluded with a visit to the enchanting Moana Falls, nestled within a lush rainforest. Moana is a fairly easy hike, with very little elevation. Hiking through the verdant trails, surrounded by the soothing sounds of nature was a major highlight for me. There are a lot of rocks to cascade, and water shoes are recommended as it can be muddy depending on the weather. Reaching the cascading waterfall is the final destination on the trail. It’s a great way to step away from the city and experience the various landscapes around the island that give a special touch.
